Outdoor Recreation
Brevard is known for being one of the top destination for outdoor sports in the entire country thanks in large part to the world-class level of trails, rivers and rock faces to explore in the nearby Pisgah National Forest. With over 400 miles of mountain biking trails in Pisgah National Forest, there is no shortage of trails, gravel roads and scenic road rides to enjoy just minutes from downtown Brevard. And if you’re looking for waterfalls, well then you’re in luck, as Brevard and Transylvania County is home to around 250 waterfalls, making it one of the top destinations in the world for those looking to explore these beautiful and totally natural cascades. Our favorite recommendation is to head to DuPont State Recreational Forest where you can see several incredible waterfalls all within a short hike from the newly constructed Aleen Steinberg Visitor Center.

All the water that flows through the area as evidenced with the abundant waterfalls also makes a perfect home for a healthy trout population. We recommend heading over to Davidson River Outfitters for a guided tour on the Davidson River where you’re sure to land a few lunkers in their privately-managed stocked fishery.
Food, Drinks & Nightlife
Brevard is the fortunate recipient of several world-class chefs. Like so many of the “newer” locals, they pursued a dream of quality of life no big city could provide. Their love of place is reflected in the fantastic creations they offer. Whether it’s the wild mushroom risotto at the Hobnob, the she-crab bisque at Marco Trattoria, or the goat cheese salad at Square Root your palette will be pleased. For those looking to sample some Brevard-brewed beer, check out the Tasty Weasel Taproom at Oskar Blues Brewery or head downtown to the speakeasy-style taproom of the Brevard Brewing Company. Both offer recently-brewed tastes of their unique takes on IPAs, lagers and porters that have the craft beer scene of western North Carolina talking.
Insider’s Tip: Making reservations on the weekends during the summer will save you a lot of hassles especially when there is an event at the Music Center.
Brevard and Transylvania County hosts a vibrant music scene with something for everyone. From the world famous Brevard Music Center to jam sessions in many of or restaurants and our summer festivals or the Brevard philharmonic 55 piece orchestra we have it all. Be sure to visit for the White Squirrel Festival, a street festival in downtown Brevard that always draws large crowds of music lovers who come out to sample the eclectic sounds put on by festival founder and organizer John Felty.
