Blue Ridge Mountains Brevard NC, minutes outside of Brevard the Blue Ridge Parkway winds through Pisgah National Forest with breathtaking scenic views. During the spring and fall you can drive but during the winter it is typically restricted to foot and peddle power.
If you Exit the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 412 you can drive or ride down US 276 through Pisgah National Forest, dropping into Transylvania County’s most iconic stretches of Scenic Highway 276. You’ll pass the Cradle of Forestry, Sliding Rock and Looking Glass Falls. You can park on the side of the road and see Looking Glass Falls and if you are brave slide down Sliding rock or simply watch others do so.
In all, Transylvania County is home to over 150,000 acres of public lands, encompassed by Pisgah National Forest, DuPont State Forest and Gorges State Park, with an additional 8,000 acres in the East Fork Headwaters State Park slated for 2016 opening.
